Phonics

This week our tricky word is were. Can your child read and spell this word?

We have also revised the phonemes oo, ar, or and ur. We have enjoyed singing this song to help us read words with the long and short oo digraphs.

Maths

We have been consolidating the children’s understanding of the composition of 5. We then moved onto the composition of 6,7,8 and 9 and explored seeing ‘5 and a bit’.

Understanding the World

This week we have been looking at where Farsley is. We now know it is in Leeds. We used Google Earth to look at Leeds City Centre. We saw lots of buildings, roads, bridges and a railway station. We noticed that there was not much green space like gardens and parks. We learnt a new word – Urban. Leeds City Centre is an urban area as it has lots of buildings.

We have created our own maps of Leeds City Centre…

We also enjoyed reading the story ‘Martha Maps It Out’.

Reading Buddies

RGK enjoyed spending time with their Year 4 Reading Buddies. They shared some of our lovely new library books.

Everything Else…

Harlow Carr

Thank you to everyone who has paid their £3.00 on ParentPay for our visit to Harlow Carr in June. We will confirm which volunteers we need after the half term holiday.

PE Kits

Next half term, we will hopefully do our PE lessons outside. Your child will need a pair of trainers or pumps. In Year 1 the children come to school in their PE kit on their PE days. As part of the transition to Year 1, we would like the children to come to school wearing their PE kit on a Friday after the half term holiday. Please don’t spend money on a red school hoody, they are fine in their school jumper or cardigan.

Reading Challenge

There are only two months left! In June you need to share a book about ‘Magic’ and in July you need to read a book about ‘The Past’. Can you complete the challenge and get entered into the prize draw?

Science Superstars!

Calling all scientists of Farfield! We are searching for our next Science Superstars!

Have a great week.
