Reception News – 25.4.25

Wow – we can’t believe we are in the last term of Reception! We have lots of fun activities planned, including our trip to Harlow Carr in May and Stockeld Park in June.

Phonics

This week we have revised phase 3 phonemes. We have also written the words bus, fan and left by matching them to pictures. Some children have tried to write the sentence ‘He said we can turn the fan on.’ Our tricky word is so.

Maths

We have been doing lots of counting this week. The children enjoyed counting to 100! They have engaged with activities that draw attention to the purpose of counting – to find out ‘how many’ objects there are. We also revisited the concept of cardinality – the idea that the last number in the count tells us how many things there are altogether.

The children have had fun doing surveys. They have asked their friends what their favourite colour is, what fruit do they like etc…

Oliver’s Fruit Salad

Our focus book for this half term is Oliver’s Fruit Salad by Vivian French. We will be tasting some interesting fruits this half term.

PE

The children enjoyed their first outside PE lesson! They had fun playing lots of games.

Everything Else…

Secret Reader

Don’t forget it isn’t too late to come in and be our Secret Reader. The children have loved having different people in. Everyone is welcome, including grandparents, aunts and uncles. Please email us if you would like to book a slot.

Harlow Carr

We are looking forward to our visits to Harlow Carr. RGK are going on Tuesday 6th May and RP on Thursday 8th May. The children need to wear their school uniform. Please ensure your child wears appropriate footwear and a raincoat or sun hat depending on the weather forecast! We will be outside most of the day. The children need a rucksack or bag to carry their own lunch and drink. Please don’t pack any nuts in their lunch. Thank you to everyone who has paid their £3.00 on ParentPay.
