Reception News – 4.10.24
Phonics
This week we have introduced the children to ‘tricky words’. A tricky word is a word that can’t be sounded out, they have to know it by sight. This week our tricky word is I. The children have practised reading and writing the word.
They have also learnt the phonemes/graphemes for i and n. We have been practising our blending skills too.
Can you make a word with your flashcards?
Maths
This week we have been doing lots of counting. The children have learnt to ‘put them in a line and point to them 1 at a time’.
They all enjoyed making their own counting stick and have been busy counting objects around the classroom.
Understanding of the World
The children are enjoying sharing and talking about their family photographs.
Reading buddies
RP enjoyed meeting their Year 4 reading buddies this week! We look forward to seeing them again next half term.

Phonics, Reading and Maths Meeting
We are looking forward to seeing you all at our meetings. We will be discussing how we teach reading, phonics and maths in Reception and how you can support your child at home. Our first meeting is on Wednesday 9th October from 2.30pm – 3.10pm in the Infant Building School Hall. Our online meeting is on Wednesday 16th October from 6.00pm – 6.40pm on Google Meet
We really hope that you will be able to join us at one of the sessions. This session is for adults – the children don’t need to attend.
Have a great weekend.
