Phonics
Our tricky word this week is when. The children are getting really good at reading words with consonant clusters in! We looked at cr like in crab, pt like in slept and sp like in spoon.
Maths
This week we have been deepening the children’s understanding of number. We have done lots of practical activities including:
- comparing groups of objects that are different sizes/colours/attributes, using the language of comparison
- showing an understanding that numbers can be split into smaller parts
- showing how to recombine parts to make a whole amount
- showing that some numbers to 10 can be split into 2 equal parts
- knowing that 5 is a key anchor in our number system, from which other numbers may be derived
We have also had lots of fun with pattern. The children enjoyed creating repeating patterns using a variety of resources.
Poetry Slam
The children enjoyed performing our poem in front of the whole school at the Poetry Slam. They all did a great job!
Understanding the World
In our RE lesson we continued to think about our amazing world. We read and discussed the story ‘Tiny Crab is a Tidy Crab’. The children helped sort some rubbish and learnt about reducing, reusing and recycling.
Understanding the World – Maps
The children are really enjoying learning about maps. This week we learnt about story maps. We read the book ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ and then drew a map to show what happened in the story. The children drew their own maps and made some maps using bricks too! Next week we start looking at positional language using a pirate map!
Secret Reader
Thank you to this week’s Secret Readers. Would anyone else like to be a Secret Reader? The children love it!
Sports Day
The children are looking forward to Sports Day next Wednesday and are busy practising the races. The event will take place on the bottom field from 9:15-10:15 and parents and carers are invited to come and watch. Children need to come to school in their PE kit, trainers or pumps and bring a water bottle.
Reading Challenge
Well done to everyone who has been completing the Reading Challenge. The last theme is to share a book about ‘The Past’.
Have a lovely weekend. We hope to see lots of you at the camp over.
