Reception News – 7.6.24

Wow – we can’t believe we are in the last half term of Reception!

Phonics

This week we have been updating our phonics assessments. The children have impressed us with their phonic knowledge. Please keep practising the flashcards and playing on Fast Phonics.

Please keep hearing your child read and write a comment in their reading record. By the end of Reception children are expected to be reading red books and moving onto yellow books. Thank you for all your support with phonics and reading.

Maths

The children have continued to learn about number bonds this week. We began by looking at the composition of the numbers 6 to 9 using the ‘5 and a bit’ structure. Then we explored how 10 can be composed.

The children enjoyed singing this song. Click here to sing it at home.

Understanding the World

We are continuing our work on learning about where we live. So far we have looked at our homes, Cote Lane (school), Farsley and Leeds. This week we are looking at the United Kingdom. We know that there are four countries in the UK – Scotland, Northern Ireland, England and Wales. We looked at different places in each country using Google Earth and decided whether it was urban or rural or both!

Everything Else…

PE

The children loved their outside PE lesson! “This is the best lesson ever!”

Special Mention Assembly

As part of the transition to Year 1 the children are now going to Special mention assembly every Thursday. Each week children are chosen to receive a certificate and they go out to the front for everyone to celebrate their super work. Children can also bring in sports medals, swimming certificates, trophies etc… to share in the assembly.

Harlow Carr Trip

Please don’t forget our trip is coming up: Tuesday 25th June RGK and Thursday 27th June RP. Please make your payment of £3 using ParentPay. It is lovely that we have had lots of parent volunteers, unfortunately we can’t take all of you. Those parents who are coming will be notified this week.

Have a lovely weekend.
