Sandwich fun in year 1!
Phonics
In phonics this week we have revised oi/oy/air/are/mb/kn/wh/ aw/or and au. We have also continued to revise all of the Year 1 tricky words.
English and Design and Technology
In English this week we have been reading The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch. We received a letter from Mr Grinling asking us to help him write instructions for how to make a sandwich. We have been busy using our cooking skills to design, make and evaluate a scrumptious sandwich!
Maths
In maths we have been using signs > < to compare numbers to 100. We have learned that we need to look at the tens first when comparing numbers eg. 62 has 6 tens and 42 has 4 tens. This has helped us to compare and solve a range of problems. We have have also started our unit on money. Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s is helping us to pay for lots of items!
Science
In science we have continued our learning all about animals. We enjoyed walking around the school grounds on an animal hunt. We found lots of birds and butterflies. We even spotted a squirrel!
History
In history we started our new learning linked to Grace Darling. We learned about what famous means and why Grace Darling was famous. We also created a timeline linked to Grace Darlings life.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 1 Team
