Shakespeare and Materials in Year 5
Good afternoon parents and carers,
This week we have continued work on the Shakespeare play ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. The children have been really enthusiastic about this topic and have worked together to write some excellent playscripts. We have then chosen a scene each to perform. I was so impressed with our acting skills and how much more confident at performing many of the children have become. Here are some videos from 5KH, (filmed by Thomas).
For English homework we have asked children to learn their Year 3/4 or Year 5/6 spellings on Spelling Shed. We will be having a Spelling competition for each group of children at the end of this term.
Maths
In Maths we have been learning division methods. Mathletics homework has been set on this.
Reading Buddies
This week 5HB visited their Y1B reading buddies. Reading buddies were a regular part of the school before the pandemic and the Y5 children are very excited that we have reintroduced it. Our first visit was a ‘getting to know you’ session but we have exciting plans for future events with our reading buddies.
Other subjects
In Science we have sorted different materials. We then learnt about the properties of different materials used in building. The children enjoyed conducting a survey of materials used to build the school and why they have been used. They were particularly pleased to feedback to Mr Harris about any wear and tear or dangerous damage to any of the materials.
Enjoy your weekend,
Mrs Kroon and the Year 5 team
