Sports Day, Roman Shields and The Dragon Song!
D.T
What a busy week it has been! We spent the first part of the week making our Roman Shields. The children really enjoyed this project and worked brilliantly, thinking carefully about how to attach handles and ‘bosses’, working out how to reinforce their shields to make them stronger, and painting their designs carefully. We were particularly impressed with the independence of the children, and the way they supported each other when they got stuck.
We then tested our shields with some different formations outside! Some shields needed a few repairs after that!
Sports Day
Another highlight of the week was sports day. We were so proud of all the children for their effort and enthusiasm. Thank you to everyone who managed to come and watch.
Transition
The children also spent some time in their new Year 4 classes this week, meeting their new teachers. One of the things that many children are looking forward to in Year 4 is going swimming! If you would like to visit Bramley Baths (where the children will have their lessons) during the summer holidays, follow the link to the pool timetable.
We are also encouraging families to get involved with the Summer Reading Challenge. The children have had an assembly explaining how the challenge works. Sign up at your nearest library!
Music
And last but not least, we filmed our final performances of The Dragon Song in music. This was a tricky song, including two part harmonies, violins, recorders, guitars, keyboards, glockenspiels and lots of words to learn! We are so impressed with how well the children did; many children took the time to practise their singing and instruments at home and we really appreciate the efforts they put in.
Well done to our special mentions this week: Frank, Hadiya, Janvi, Alfie and Nala.
Next week, we will be having class parties on Tuesday, our final day of Year 3! If you are able to bring in a small contribution of party food, please sign up on the lists here:
Thank you to all our families for your support this year. The children have done fabulously and have been such a wonderful Year 3. We will really miss them as they move on to Year 4.
We hope you all have a brilliant summer break.
Best wishes,
Mrs Sykes and Mrs Begum
