Sweet Treat at the End of the Week.
English
In English, we have been working on writing interesting paragraphs that include a variety of sentence types. These are description, action and dialogue sentences, and the author of the Explorer, Katherine Rundell, uses these to good effect in her novels. We based our writing this week on the video Catch It. As it doesn’t have any dialogue, it was a great way for the children to use their visual comprehension and imagination skills when writing their paragraphs.
Maths
Percentages and the relationship to decimals and fractions have been the focus in Maths this week. To help your child, have a look at the video below.
Science
This week, the classes have been looking at irreversible changes. These occur when a chemical reaction takes place and a new “thing” is formed. To demonstrate this (and due the extremely hot temperature of the boiling sugar) the teachers undertook the task of making honeycomb. Whilst watching the process, the children identified at what stage the changes could not be undone. After cooling, they also got to try the honeycomb. By popular demand, the recipe used today, minus the chocolate coating, can be found here. 5B in particular looked like an army of rainforest ants when they were offered a second (and third) piece!
Just a reminder that parents evenings are being held on the 1st and 2nd of April, if you haven’t already booked in.
We are also going to be undertaking a DT project that involves sewing in a couple of weeks, so if you have a needle some cotton, showing and reminding your child how to thread a needle would give them a great start.
Have a great weekend.
Mr Beevers and Mrs Kroon.
