This week in Nursery
Write Dance
Here is another ‘Write Dance’ for to keep your children active during the half term holiday. Can you join in with them? You can also practise the previous dances.
Child-led learning
This week one of our focus children had been to a farm to choose a pumpkin. We set up and activity in Nursery with a pumpkin, some hammers and golf tees. The children had to hammer the tees into the pumpkin. This strengthens their wrists which in turn aids them when starting to write. Perhaps you could do this activity at home if you have a pumpkin for Halloween!
Word Study
A large part of what we do in Nursery is to develop language and communication skills. We do this in several ways including modelling correct pronunciation of words, using the correct vocabulary such as train and not choo-choo. We also have word studies which expand the children’s understanding of words. We select a word which has come up in conversation or been in a story and use pictures to explain it. We also add more complex words for those children who’s language is more developed. This week we have been talking about the word ‘tall’. Please reinforce this word at home. Here is how we have been learning about it…
