This Week in Year 4
We’ve had a lovely sunny week in Year 4! It’s been great to see the children enjoying the fields at playtime: we have some very impressive Year 4 dens at the moment, with lots of creative play and team work.
Beastlands
On Tuesday, we were lucky to have author Jess French talking to us about her Beastlands series of books. It was fascinating hearing about how Jess’s travels and her careers as a zoologist, vet and pathologist helped inspire her books and the beasts she has created for them. Jess challenged the children to invent their own beasts and perhaps even write their own stories. We would love to see some of the children’s ideas!

Poetry
In English, the children have written some amazing free verse poems, using images as their starting points. We have particularly been focusing on using similes and metaphors, and the children have had some really lovely ideas.

Maths
In maths, we have been learning about mixed numbers, placing mixed numbers on a number line and comparing and ordering mixed numbers.
4L have been working hard to consolidate their understanding of parts, wholes, numerators and denominators.

P.E
Both classes have been enjoying their new units in P.E. Here are 4SN having a go at some hockey skills.

World Down Syndrome Day
We have been supporting World Down Syndrome Day in Year 4 by wearing odd and brightly patterned socks and colouring in different odd sock designs. Donations to support people all over the world with Down syndrome can be made here.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend,
Mrs Sykes, Miss Levett and Mrs Newsome
