Useful Books
Below, is a selection of books on various topics associated with children’s emotions and mental health. We have some of these books in school but also many are available as a You Tube audio book.
These books can be a useful starter to help children talk about their feelings.

The Huge Bag of Worries by Virginia Ironside
Simple picture book about a girl who has a lot of worries and how someone came along to help her.
My Many Coloured days Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher.
A simple story book about different feelings and the colours that go with each feeling.
Angry Arthur by Hiawyn Oram
This is the funny story of Arthur who gets very angry and causes chaos in his house, his town and the world. This book can uses as a useful starting point for talking about anger.
When Sophie Gets Angry, Really, Really Angry by Molly Bang
A simple picture book about Sophie, who gets really angry after a little fall out with her sister.
The Bad Mood by Moritz Petz
Badger’s bad mood affects everybody he meets during his day. Following the story, the narrator shows you how to make an emotion chart to talk about your feelings to other people.
Lucy’s Blue Day by Christopher Duke
Lucy has lots of different feelings during the day and her hair changes with each feeling. The idea behind the story is that it is okay to feel lots of different feelings.
It’s okay to be different by Todd Parr
A really simple picture book about differences in people and families.
Always and Forever by Alan Durant
A lovely book about the death of Fox and how his furry friends feel after his death.
