Farsley Farfield Primary School

WB 11.3.24

Welcome to our weekly update! This week, children have been completing end-of-term assessments in English and maths. These assessments help to inform our teaching and will give us up-to-date information about your child’s progress when we meet at parent’s evening. Children don’t always enjoy completing assessments so we have made sure that the rest of the curriculum has been as engaging and enjoyable as possible.

5HB Science

This week, 5HB’s science lessons delved into the fascinating world of viscosity, exploring the thickness and flow of various liquids including water, oil, golden syrup, washing-up liquid, and paint. Amidst our experiments, there was an unexpected spillage of paint on the carpet – can you guess who the culprit might be?

5KH Science

This week in science, 5KH had a blast exploring the fascinating world of Ooblek! Ooblek is not your ordinary liquid; it’s what we call a non-Newtonian fluid, meaning it behaves in unexpected ways compared to regular liquids. Made with just cornflour and water, this magical concoction starts as a runny fluid but transforms into a solid when pressure is applied. The children had a blast experimenting with Ooblek, squishing it between their fingers, observing how it reacted to touch, and marveling at its ability to bounce and behave like a solid. It was a hands-on experience that left everyone in extremely enthused!

Cross Country

On Thursday, some children from Y3 and Y5 enjoyed representing the school at a cross-country event at Springbank Primary School. I am very grateful to the parents and carers who made very last-minute arrangements so that the children could attend. The children enjoyed themselves and showed excellent determination and resilience on a tough course.

Homework

Maths homework is on athletics this week and children have a spelling sheet to complete in their homework books.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Y5 Team
