WB 6.5.24
This week Year 5 has been making the most of the weather to bring the curriculum alive and prepare for our residential to Ribblehead (only 10 days to go!).
Cycling
Children really enjoyed visiting Otley Chevin to practice their cycling this week. Both classes were lucky with the weather and the track wasn’t as muddy as in previous years (let’s hope for similar weather on residential!). All of the adults were extremely impressed with the children’s stamina and perseverance during the sessions. This will stand them in good stead for Gisburn forest. For those less confident cyclists, any practice they can do between now and residential will be extremely beneficial.
Water Cycle In A Bag!
The children have been continuing their geography learning by studying the water cycle. As well as creating geographically accurate diagrams, children enjoyed making models of the water cycle using a plastic bag, some permanent markers, and some water. Thank goodness the sun was shining so that the water could evaporate!
Map Work
During this half term, children have been learning to read six-figure grid references on OS maps. This is a very tricky but important skill, especially for our ‘outdoorsy’ Farfield children! This week we made the most of the weather to practice map reading and learned how to orientate our maps using the physical and human geography we can see.
Have a lovely weekend,
the Y5 Team
