Welcome back!
Year 3 have settled back in and have enjoyed taking part in lots of new learning.
Maths
We are continuing with our unit on multiplication and division and have focused on the 3 times tables this week. Children worked in groups and partners to create arrays highlighting the number of equal groups. Children then moved on to dividing values equally. Next week, we will be moving onto the multiplying and dividing using the 4 times tables. It would benefit children to practise their number recall using TT Rockstar over the weekend.
Innocent until proven guilty?
This term focuses on traditional tales and Year 3 enjoyed reading through, ‘The True Story of The Three Little Pigs!’. Children met the wolf ( You can call him AL) and were intrigued to learn about what really happened involving a cup of sugar and a big sneeze! They enjoyed reading through various statements from other characters to help them decide whether they believed the story or not!
We also familiarised ourselves with the original story by acting it out and creating story maps.
History
This term, our topic is all about Ancient Egypt. This week, we focused on the chronology and learnt more about a ‘civilisation’ and a ‘dynasty’. Children read through the daily life of a Pharaoh and shared their views on the level of power the Pharaoh had and how lucky they were to have servants throughout the day! Children then moved onto label different parts of Egypt and find out more about who ruled the Old, Middle and New Kingdom.
Computing
We are developing our touch typing skills this term and Year 3 are enjoying working against the clock to type the correct letter using the correct finger!
PE
Children have started their new PE choices; bouldering, dance and tag rugby! Here some pictures from our dance and tag rugby group. The children are also completing modules in netball (3SB) and Outdoor Adventurous Activities (3B).
Oh no he didn’t!
3B were so excited to go to Alhambra Theatre this week to watch Cinderella. They enjoyed taking part in all the chants and for many it was their first time visiting a theatre! We won’t reveal too much but we can share that 3SB are in for a treat! ( It was magical!). Thank you to our volunteers for supporting 3B.
Well done to our special mentions this week – Reuben, Eesher, Harrison and Aila!
Our Book Challenge theme for January is ‘Feelings’. Remember you can record the books you read for each theme on the sheet that has been assigned in Google Classroom.
Have a lovely weekend.
