Farsley Farfield Primary School

Welcome to Year 3!

Its been a busy first week back, and we have been very impressed with the attitude of our new Year 3 cohort! They have been showing our school value of being ready all week and we are looking forward to seeing them flourish.

Maths

We have started our new maths unit on place value. This unit involves small steps to break down key points and we have been busy working in pairs and independently using maths apparatus to represent and partition numbers up to 100. Next week, we will be moving on to partitioning numbers up to 1000.

Silly sentences in English

We had lots of fun this week learning about different word classes, which included adjectives, nouns, verbs and adverbs. We used our understanding to construct sentences and some challenged themselves to extend them and enjoyed sharing their writing with others.

Here are some examples:

The beautiful butterfly was fluttering quietly on a small flower.

The giant lion was roaring loudly.

The happy robin was sleeping quietly.

The angry football was hovering in the air quietly because it was tired of getting kicked about!

PE

As part of PE this term, Year 3 will be taking part in an Athletics hour. This week, we focused on awareness and direction through a range of games, including Mario, and had to pick up bean bags and run passed others without getting caught!

RE

In RE, our first unit focuses on Judaism, and 3B enjoyed learning more about Noah’s Ark and the significance of a covenant. We discussed how a promise can make us feel and how Jewish people remember God’s covenant through this story.

PSHE

This week, 3S enjoyed working collaboratively and discussing positive things about each other. We then used a diamond 9 and wrote down things that are important to us.

Well done to our special mentions this week – Arthur, Grace, Reece, Charlotte.

Reading records have been given out this week, and children are expected to read five times per week and bring in a signed record each day. Both classes visited the school library and were very excited about borrowing a book!

Please note that doors will close at 8.45am and children that arrive later than this will need to come through the main office to come into school.

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy what’s left of the sun!
