Farsley Farfield Primary School

Will you be joining us?

Maths

We have continued learning about length and perimeter, focusing on equivalents using metres, centimetres and millimetres. Children enjoyed using their understanding to measure the heights of their friends and write this in metres and centimetres.

Join us on the Endurance!

We have enjoyed learning about the robust Endurance and the places she sailed to before arriving in the Antarctic. Last week, the children looked at an advert asking applicants to join Ernest Shackleton. This week, we looked at a range of adverts and identified key features before planning and beginning adverts to persuade others to join. We are very impressed with the children’s progress and looking forward to reading their edited adverts next week. In guided reading, we learned more about Endurance and inferred what words could mean by reading around it.

Science

This term, our unit is all about amazing bodies, and Year 3 enjoyed discussing their eating habits and changes they would make to build on their healthy diets. By looking at the healthy plate, children shared with their tables what they had a lot of and what they needed more of. We wonder if they will have their 5 a day?

P.E

Year 3 enjoyed their choices outside this week! In skipping, children have been practising their single and double bounce, and next week, we will be moving on to a third skill!

In tag rugby, children have been learning how to carry, put down and pass the ball. This week, the children enjoyed a range of activities to develop their tagging skills.

In Netball this week, 3B enjoyed working on their chest passes.

Computing

Our unit this term is spreadsheets, and children enjoyed asking each other questions to find out their favourite fruits and collected this data using tables. They then shared their results excitedly with each other and moved onto using the data to create a chart.

PSHE

This week was about strong emotions. We enjoyed a few minutes of mindfulness breathing and shared where we could feel our breath. Working in groups and pairs, children discussed the reasons behind their feelings and shared strategies to help us when we have strong feelings.

Music

This week the children have been perfecting the glockenspiel parts for Three Little Birds. It was lovely to have some of the children who learn instruments at school joining in on the keyboard and recorder too!

Well done to our special mentions this week – Kasim, Sirat, Amelia and Murphie!

This month, the new reading theme is ‘friendship’. Please remind children to update their sheets on Google classroom with last months text. We can’t wait to see their choices this month!

World Book Day

Next Thursday is World Book Day and the theme for this year is ‘adjectives’. As part of this, we have a competition to design a cool character for a book. Please bring all entries into school by 9am Wednesday 6th March 2024.

Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs Begum and Mrs Sykes
