Kitchen Disco

We arrived at school on Monday to find some fruit having a disco in our classrooms! Of course we had to join them for a dance.

They left us a book to enjoy and we have also really enjoyed listening to this song.

Throughout the week, the fruit enjoyed their stay in our classes and got up to lots of mischief overnight.

English

In our English lessons we each chose a character from the story ‘Kitchen Disco’. We then wrote some fantastic descriptive sentences about our character. The children have tried hard to include lots of adjectives in their writing.

In handwriting, we have been practising forming the letters x and z.

Phonics

In our phonics lessons, we have revised ee, igh, oa and oo/oo. We have also practised reading and writing the tricky words he and she.

Maths

In our maths lessons we have been working hard to compare numbers within 10. The children have been using the language of greater than, less than and equal to. They have also been using the symbols >, < and = to compare objects and write their own number sentences.

Science

This week we have been looking at trees. We went on a walk around the school grounds and identified lots of different types of trees including mountain ash, silver birch, alder, wild cherry, apple, willow, hazel and monkey puzzle. We looked at the main parts of the tree and labelled them. We then labelled our own diagram of a tree.

Art

In art we carried on with the fruit fun and made clay models of different pieces of fruit.

Reading Buddies

On Thursday, we met up with our year 5 reading buddies and enjoyed a story.

Homework

Spelling books have been sent home today. This homework is due in on Tuesday 15th October.

Please continue to read at least 4 times a week for 10 minutes with your child and write a note in their reading record that you have done so.

The log in details for Fast Phonics, Mathletics and Purple Mash are in the back of your child’s reading record. There are some assignments on Mathletics for your child to complete this half term.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 1 Team
