Year 1 – 05.07.2024
Phonics
The children are always busy during our phonics lessons. We are continuing to revisit the phase 3 and 5 phonemes/graphemes. This week we focused on: oi/oy, air/ear/are, au/aw/or. We have also been busy writing the Year 1 tricky words.
Maths
The children are working on recognising and using the correct language relating to dates. This includes days of the week, weeks, months and years. A few children were unsure which days they are usually in school, which days are part of the weekend and the order of the days of the week.
Design Technology
The children have really enjoyed the story ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ and on Tuesday we received a letter from Mr Grinling needing our help! And of course, we offered it willingly. Mr Grinling wanted ideas of what to add to his sandwich. The children designed, made and evaluated some tasty treats.
English
After designing and making a sandwich, the children wrote instructions for Mr Grinling to follow.
Once the children could write instructions, they ordered and followed some instructions for making a seagull. The results are amazing!
Science
In science, we have investigated the enquiry question ‘How many animals can we find on our school grounds?’ We collected the data in a tally chart.
History
In our history lesson we learnt about Grace Darling. We found out that Grace Darling became a national heroine after risking her life to save the stranded survivors of a wrecked steamship in 1838. We placed the events on a timeline.
Poetry Slam
The children have impressed us this week with their performances of ‘On the Pier’. I’m sure you will agree they were fantastic!
1T – On the Pier
1B – On the Pier
We hope to see lots of you at our Camp-Over.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 1 Team
