Christmas Show

The children have been busy practising their lines, songs, and actions. You should have had a letter regarding costumes. Please bring any items in a labelled bag by Friday 15th December.

Phonics

This week the children have continued to look at split digraphs. We have focused on e_e, i_e, o_e and u_e. We have also looked at the tricky words: so and do.

English

After last week’s designing and making, the children have evaluated their fire engine creations.

Maths

This week the children have looked at 2D shapes. We have named shapes including square, triangle, rectangle and circle. We have also looked at the different properties including the number of sides and vertices and sorted shapes according to these properties. The children have also really enjoyed creating pictures using shapes.

History

During our history lesson, the children looked at what happened after the Great Fire of London. We discussed the differences between 1666 and today including the use of technology and an established fire service. We thought about why it would be unlikely for such a large fire to happen today.

Science

Science was lots of fun! Using our previous knowledge of ‘waterproof‘ materials, the children created a container that could hold water. We then tested our containers to see if they worked.

St John’s Christingle

The children are very excited for our visit to St John’s Church on Monday. Please remember to send your child to school wearing sensible footwear and a warm, waterproof coat as we will be walking to the church.

Computing

This week we have been looking at how to add text and images to a Purple Mash programme. Your child’s Purple Mash log in details are in the front of their reading record if they would like to continue with this task at home.

1 Minute Maths

1 Minute Maths is a free resource available to use at home. It helps children build number confidence and fluency through engaging, 1-minute tasks. It is available as an app and there is also a desktop version.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 1 Team
