Year 1 – 12.07.24
Phonics
This week we have focused on writing the days of the week. The children have practised writing each day and wrote sentences including the different days.
Maths
During our maths sessions, the children looked at time. They have worked on telling the time to the hour and half past the hour. They have used clocks to show these times and matched clock faces to the correct time. The children also made a clock with moving hands to practise with.
English
This week we have continued to look at The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch. Mr Grinling’s challenge was for us to create a ‘basket protector’ so that seagulls could not take his lunch. The children had some fantastic ideas. Later in the week, the children wrote a descriptive piece of writing explaining the basket design for Mr Grinling.
In our reading lesson, we used Inference Iggy and Vocabulary Victor to answer questions about the text.
Art
The children have impressed us with their lighthouse drawing and collage. They look amazing!
History
We have continued to look at Grace Darling. We discussed reasons why she became so famous. We then sorted facts into different categories based on what we knew.
Music
It was our final week of Let’s perform together. Here are the videos to show you what they have done.
Sam’s Safari
Today is the due date for the Sam’s Safari payment for our workshop next week. If you have not already done so, please make your payment as soon as possible so that the workshop can go ahead.
Have an amazing weekend,
The Year 1 Team
