Year 1 – 13.09.24
It has been a busy week of fun and learning in Year 1!
Phonics
In phonics this week we have revised the phonemes j, v, w and x. We have also revised the tricky words I, no, and the. The children have really impressed us with their sentence writing.
Maths
In maths we have been looking at writing and representing numbers to 10. The children have been working hard to write numbers as numerals and words as well as representing them using objects and pictures.
English
In our English lessons we have been talking about our families. The children have all drawn a picture of who lives in their house and labelled them.
PSHE
In PSHE we have been looking at our school rules: Ready, Respectful, and Kind. The children did really well suggesting ideas on how they could show that they are ready to learn, respectful of others and the environment and how they can show kindness to themselves and others.
PE
We have started our PE lessons this week. On Monday, 1T had their first Northern Arts dance lesson. They will continue these lessons until the half term holiday, after which 1B will have their dance lessons.
On Monday, 1B started their multiskills lessons.
On Thursday, both classes started on their unit of fundamental movement skills.
Science
In science, the classes learnt some facts about their class animals. 1T learnt that hedgehogs are nocturnal omnivores that can travel up to 2 miles each night. Did you know they have 5000-7000 spines? 1B learnt that rabbits are herbivores and their teeth never stop growing!
Art
After learning about our class animals, each class created some artwork. 1T used coloured pencils to draw their hedgehogs, while 1B painted their rabbits. The children had lots of fun and did a great job.
History
In history we discussed how we have changed since a baby. We enjoyed looking at our baby photographs and discussing how we have changed.
We then sorted some different items into whether we needed them when we were a baby or if we need them now.
Homework
Your child will come home with their purple homework book today. This homework is due in on Tuesday 24th September. Please help your child to complete this task at home.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 1 Team

Another brilliant week. Well done everyone
Thank you for the lovely photos, nice to see what the kids are doing in class. It’s also good to read about what they have done over the week. There was no purple homework book in a majority of 1T’s bags on Friday.
