Year 1 – 14.06.24
Rodley Nature Reserve
1B had a fantastic time at Rodley Nature Reserve on Tuesday.
1T had a brilliant time at Rodley Nature Reserve on Thursday.
A huge thank you to our parent volunteers who came with us!
Author Visit
We had a wonderful time meeting Suzie Senior in an assembly earlier this week. We really enjoyed listening to her new book Banana Hunt!
Phonics
The children in school this week have taken their Phonics Screening Check. The results of the check will be communicated to you in their end-of-year reports after the official pass mark has been released. Any children who have not passed the check will have an opportunity to retake the check in Year 2.
English
In English this week we have looked at the suffixes ing, er and est. We learnt that a suffix is a group of letters that comes at the end of the word and slightly changes the meaning. The children practised adding suffixes to the end of different root words.
Maths
This week we have started looking at numbers up to 100. The children have practised counting forwards and backwards within 100 in 1s and 10s.
PSHE
In PSHE we have started our new topic on money. This week we discussed where we get money from and what we spend money on. The children then decided what they would do with £10. Some children wanted to spend it all on one item, some children wanted to buy a few smaller items, others wanted to save it and some decided to spend a little and save the rest.
History
This week in history we looked at images of bathing machines.
The children were very interested and did well to use the clues in the images to come up with ideas about what they might be used for. We discovered that bathing machines were used in the past to allow people at the seaside to get changed into swimwear so that they could paddle in the sea.
Computing
In computing, we have continued with our work on pictograms. This week we gathered data to answer the question ‘Which fruit do Year 1 children like the most?’ and created a whole class pictogram.
Science Superstars
Year 1 will be holding class auditions on Wednesday 26th June. Please make sure that your child brings everything they need to school on that day to perform their science experiment or investigation in their class.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 1 Team
