Year 1 – 15.12.23
Phonics
This week the children have revisited some of the phase 5 phonemes/graphemes and looked at some of the tricky words we have learnt so far. We have also been busy completing assessments. Next week the children will continue to revisit some phase 5 phonemes/graphemes and tricky words along with completing assessments. Please continue to practise the phonemes/graphemes we have learnt so far. Your support at home does make a difference. Thank you.
Maths
The children have continued looking at shapes. This week we have focused on 3D shapes. We have been naming shapes including cube, cuboid, cone, sphere, cylinder and pyramid and looking at their properties.
English
During our English lessons, the children followed instructions to make a Christmas card.
The children then wrote their own instructions on how to make a card. They started each instruction with a ‘bossy’ verb.
St John’s Church
The children were very excited to visit a local church and take part in making a Christingle, a symbolic object that means ‘Christ’s light’.
PE
1B have had a fantastic time learning a new dance routine with Northern Arts this half term. Here are our final festive performances!
Christmas Performance
We have also been very busy practising for our Christmas performances. They will take place on Tuesday 19th December at 09.30am and Wednesday 20th December at 2.00pm in the junior hall.
Christmas Party
The Year 1 Christmas party will be on Thursday 21st December. Your child can come to school in non-uniform on that day and bring their own individual party snack. A letter has been sent home today with more details.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 1 Team
