Farsley Farfield Primary School

Year 1 – 21.03.25

Phonics

In phonics this week we have looked at the alternative graphemes oe/oa/o-e/ow, oo/ew/ue/u-e, aw/au/or and er/ir/ur. We have also practised reading and writing the tricky words Mr and Mrs. Well done to all of the children who were a Phonic Detective this week!

English

In English we have continued with our senses booklets. We have completed our pages on the sense of touch and the sense of sight. We have also drawn our front covers!

Maths

In maths we have continued with our work on numbers to 50. We have looked at number lines to 50 and also estimated numbers on a number line. We then moved on to one more than and one less than a number to 50. Can your child tell you the one more and one less than a number within 50?

Science

In science this week we investigated the enquiry question ‘What differences can our tongue taste?’. We learnt that our tongue has taste buds and uses these to decide if something is sour, bitter, sweet or salty. We then tasted a variety of different foods including dark chocolate, Starbursts, salted crisps, lemon juice, marmite, strawberry sauce, olives and pickled onions and thought about how we would describe their taste.

PE

1B enjoyed their first multi-sports lesson with Mrs Lily.

Little Sing

On Friday 28th March, Year 1 will be attending a Little Sing event at Pudsey Civic Hall. We will be leaving school at 9.40am and will be back at school for 11.20am. We need some parent volunteers to go with us please. If you are able to help please email rebecca.broadhead@farsleyfarfield.org.uk or andrea.tomlinson@farsleyfarfield.org.uk

Have a lovely weekend,
