Year 1 – 22.03.24
Phonics
For our morning tasks, we have continued with our ‘Phonic Detective’ sheets. These lead into our phonics sessions where the children keep looking at the same phonemes/graphemes. This week we have looked at the families: oa/oe/o_e/ow, oo/ew/u_e, au/aw/or, and er/ir/ur.
Maths
This week we have focused on measuring. We have compared length and height, measured using objects, and measured using centimetres.
English
We have been very busy this week. We finished our senses booklets and had a mystery to solve! We followed some clues and found a large, blue, sparkly egg! The children have been writing questions to find out who left the mystery egg and what might be inside.
In handwriting we have practised forming the capital letters Q,R,S,T and U.
Science
Our science sessions have been rather energetic this week! The children completed ‘Body Olympics’ to collect information and record results.
We investigated the enquiry questions:
Can longer arms throw further?
Can longer legs jump further?
Can bigger hands hold more cubes?
Pigs!
We have really enjoyed visiting the pigs this week.
Homework
We will not be sending home any homework for the rest of this half term. Please use this time to read regularly with your child, play the key word games, use the flashcards and to go on Fast Phonics and Mathletics. Please write in your child’s reading record when you have read at home. Children should be reading for 10 minutes at least 4 times a week.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 1 Team
