Year 1 – 22.09.23
Phonics
In our phonics lessons this week we have revised the sounds y, z, zz, qu, and ch. We have also practised reading and writing the tricky words ‘to’ and ‘go’.
English
In English this week we have been writing sentences about ourselves. We have been working hard to remember capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, and neat handwriting.
In handwriting we have practised the letter l, i and t.
Maths
This week in maths we have been counting and representing objects to 10. The children have also been working hard to answer some reasoning and problem solving questions.
PSHE
In PSHE we did our first MindMate lesson. We watched a clip of ‘Inside Out’ and discussed the feelings we could see in the clip. We spoke about how different emotions feel in our bodies and used our facial expressions to show these feelings. Then we discussed different ways to manage uncomfortable feelings like anger and sadness.
History
We had lots of fun looking at our baby photos. We talked about how we had changed since we were a baby.
Then we sorted and discussed objects that a baby would use and a Year 1 child would use.
Music
We really enjoyed our music lesson this week. We are busy learning our class songs for this half term. Watch out for our final performances!
Homework
Your child will have brought home a red spelling book today. There are some words for your child to practise reading and writing at home. If your child can already read and write the words correctly please encourage them to put the words into a sentence. There will not be a spelling ‘test’.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 1 Team
