Year 1 – 27.10.23

Phonics

In phonics this week we have revised all of the Phase 3 phonemes. We have also completed a phonics assessment with each child. After half term, we will begin to teach Phase 5 phonemes. We have also revised the tricky words I, no, the, go, to, we, into, he, she, me, be, you, and are.

English

We have been learning and performing the poem Water by Shirley Hughes. The children have done a fantastic job learning the poem and even added some actions! Here are our final performances.

Maths

In maths, we have continued our work on addition. The children have been writing their own number sentences from a part-whole. The children have learnt that we can write 4 addition number sentences for 1 part whole model.

Geography

This week, we have been looking at the season of Autumn. We went on an Autumn scavenger hunt and found lots of evidence of Autumn including red, orange, and brown leaves, acorns and toadstools!

We have also used our weather station to record what the weather is like in Autumn.

Computing

In computing, we have looked at different types of technology and discussed the technology we use. We talked about E-Safety and came up with some rules for when we are using technology to ensure we are safe.

RE

This half-term we have been finding out about special religious books, exploring the meaning of religious stories and discussing how they can make a difference in our lives. We re-told the stories through role-play and we also made leaves for a wish tree. Our leaves contain morals we had learnt this term.

Temple Newsam

To enhance our history topic next half-term we will be going on a school trip to Temple Newsam. Please ensure you have returned the permission slip and made the payment on ParentPay by Friday 10th November. If you need a replacement letter please let us know. If you are unable to log in to ParentPay please contact the office for your login details.

Homework

There will be no homework sent home today. Please use this time for reading and to go on to Fast Phonics and Mathletics.

We hope you all have a wonderful half-term.
