Year 1 – 28.06.24
Phonics
This week the children have continued to revisit the phase 3 and 5 phonemes. We have focused on: ie, igh, i_e, ue, ew, oo, ow, ou, ir, ur, and er.
Maths
This week has been all about money! The children have worked on recognising and knowing the value of different denominations of coins and notes.
English
In preparation for next week’s Poetry Slam, the children have been very busy learning a poem called ‘On the Pier’ by Nicola Davies.
In our grammar lessons, we have continued to look at suffixes. This week we have learnt about the suffix ‘ed’.
Science
It has been an exciting week for science. The children have been exploring animal poo! We dissected animal poo to find out which animals were herbivores, carnivores or omnivores. We were very impressed with the children’s knowledge.
Science Superstars
This week lots of children took part in the class auditions. A huge well done to everyone who took part!
A special congratulations to Daisy in 1T and Rachel in 1B who are through to the whole school final on Friday 12th July.
Sam’s Safari
Thank you to everyone who has paid for our Sam’s Safari workshop so far. If you have not already done so, please make the payment on ParentPay by Friday 12th July.
Library
The children are really enjoying our new school library. We are very lucky to have so many fantastic books that the children can borrow. Year 1 library day is on a Friday. Please ensure your child returns their library book every Friday so that they can exchange it for a new one.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 1 Team
