Year 2 News 10.11.23
English
This week in English we have been reading and writing poems about fireworks. Children have written their first acrostic poem using the letters for firework. They were brilliant! Children used lots of right choice verbs and adjectives to describe fireworks. We introduced alliteration.
Spelling
Oh u lucky duck! Use this to support learning the spellings would, could, should!
We have also been looking at the alternative spellings for oa.
Maths
This week in maths we have continued with our addition and subtraction unit. We have been adding to the next ten and across a ten. The video below talks through the strategies we have been using:
Geography
In our first lesson on the polar regions, we have learned what the equator is and where the hot and cold parts of the world are.
Science
In science we recapped the animal classification groups and talked about their features. Children then sorted some animals into these groups. There is a homework task this week to consolidate this.
Year 2 Cooking
This half term, children will be developing their cutting and chopping skills to make a tomato sauce for spaghetti. The first group thought it was delicious!
Art
This week we talked about Remembrance. We then looked at some different artist’s work of poppy fields. Children enjoyed using paints to create their own poppy field paintings. We will continue to work on our painting skills this half term and throughout the year.
