English
This week we have been writing our own versions of The Little Red Hen. The children used their plans from last week to introduce their characters and setting. The children were able to use the same structure to make their stories similar but adding their own details.
Yesterday, we started our new class text, Supertato. We listened to the story for enjoyment, then answered questions to say what we thought. Next week we will write a book review.
Spellings
This week we have looked at both ou/ow and oy/oi. We included the homophones flour/flower.
Maths
In maths this week, we have started our new topic on addition and subtraction. We have started by looking at number bonds to 10 and 20. For homework, please can children complete the Mathletics tasks set or show their understanding of number bonds and fact families by recording some number sentences/patterns in their books. If children know their pairs to 10 e.g. 4 + 6 = 10, they should be able to derive other pairs such as 14 + 6 = 20 and even 40 + 60 = 100!
Art
This week in art, we used pastels to create these lovely fruit still life pictures.
RE
In RE we enjoyed playing ‘guess the baby’ from the children’s pictures. We then talked about how we would welcome a new baby. We talked about choosing a name for a baby; some children told us what their name meant and who they were named after. Children talked about what they could give a new baby as a present.
Baking Bread
Another two groups made their bread this week.
