It has been another fantastic week in Year 2 full of learning and fun!

English

This week during our English lessons, we have continued our work on instructions. We looked at how co-ordinating conjunctions (and, but) and subordinating conjunctions (because, when) can be used to expand sentences and give further detail. We had a go at choosing the correct conjunction and then using these in some of our own sentences. We then put all our knowledge to the test and had a go at writing our very own instructions to explain how to clean your teeth properly. We can’t wait to try out our new toothbrushes at home!

We watched this video which gave us lots of good advice:

Maths

In maths, we have been looking at how to partition numbers into tens and ones. We started by doing this simply, then looked at doing this flexibly. We used part-whole models and dienes to support our learning and looked carefully for patterns that would help us. We then wrote calculations to accompany our pictorial representations e.g. 46 = 40 + 6 and 46 = 30 +16

Mathletics

Have you done any Mathletics yet? We have set some activities that we would like the children to complete at home next week which consolidate learning in school. Remember, if the children earn 1000 points before Sunday, they get a certificate in school. Passwords have been sent home this week.

PE

We have had lots of fun in PE this week developing our movement skills. We have been developing our jumping skills through a range of different games including hurdles, hoop jumps and island hopping to steal treasure.

Geography

In geography this week we learned three new words: urban, rural and settlement. Can you remember what they mean?

We then sorted pictures into urban and rural.

Art

In art we looked at some different works of art all using fruit as their inspiration. We talked about each piece and said if we liked it or not and why. Next we did some of our own observational drawings of fruit from a picture. The children looked carefully at the size, shapes and lines.

Reminders:

Well done to all of the children who have earned lots of dojos this week for reading at home! Please remember to have a go at reading your school reading book 4 times a week and get an adult to sign your reading record.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team
