English

To end our work on Follow the Swallow, we planned and wrote our own postcards from the point of view of Apollo to tell his friend all about the adventures he had during his migration to Africa. We have then been focussing on non-fiction texts during the rest of our English lessons this week. We began by looking at the different features of a non-chronological report and identified these in a range of texts about polar animals. We then looked at non-fiction sentences and grouped these together according to a theme and created a sub-heading for each paragraph. We are looking forward to researching polar animals in our lessons next week.

Maths

In our maths lessons, we have consolidated our learning on adding two 2-digit numbers that cross the ten by using base 10 to show exchanging. We then moved on to subtracting two 2-digit numbers.

In Year 2 we don’t use formal methods for recording our additions and subtractions. We have shown the children how to use tens and ones jottings. See the examples below for guidance.

PE

2BW have been having lots of fun in their dance sessions with the coach from Northern Dance. We have been working on different ways of movement and building up a dance routine to ‘Let it Snow’.

2LA have been working on their gymnastic skills including balancing and travelling.

Geography

What would you take with you on an expedition to Antarctica? We have been thinking carefully about what it would be like in a cold climate this week with a focus on Antarctica. We found out just how cold it really is in the polar regions and how this impacts the animals living there. We discussed what things we would need to take with us if we were to visit such a cold place and filled our own suitcases with drawings to show this.

PSHE

In PSHE this week we talked about how it feels to be left out. We role played some situations where somebody was feeling left out and the other person approached them to help. We then talked about friendly and unfriendly things to do.
