Year 2 News 25.10.24
It has been a busy week to end the half term filled with fun and lots of new learning challenges.
English
This week in our English lessons, we have been creating our own super veggies inspired by our work on Supertato. We began with a drama based lesson where our veggies were put in ‘the hot seat’ and answered questions from our group. We then focussed on right choice words to describe our characters and collected these in our book. Using the vocabulary we collected, we built up our own piece of descriptive writing using a range of adjectives.
Spelling
This week in spellings we have looked at different ways to make the igh sound including the homophones right/write and night/knight.
Maths
This week we have been using our number bonds to ten to help us add one digit numbers. We found out that we could add 3 1-digit numbers by looking for a pair to 10 first. How would you solve 3 + 5 + 7?
We also looked at adding to the next 10 by using our bonds to 10. We know that 6 + 4 = 10 so we also know 16 + 4 = 20 and 26 + 4 = 30. We made some patterns like this!
We then moved on to adding across a ten by partitioning. This was quite tricky! See an example below:
Geography
We ended our topic on our local area this week with a messy map activity! We made maps of Farsley adding on features such as school, the library, roads and houses.
DT
We created some fabulous moving pictures this week using sliders, wheels or levers.
We showed these to the children in Nursery and Reception who were very impressed.
Have a wonderful half term break!
