English

Our focus text for this week has been The Bog Baby by Jeanne Willis, a magical story about two sisters finding an unusual creature in a pond. We began the week by reading and discussing the story then wrote our own questions to ask the characters during a hot seating activity. We then spent the week focusing on building up a setting description using expanded noun phrases and prepositions. We loved learning lots of new vocabulary to use in our writing such as peaceful, tranquil and serene.

Spelling

This week we have been revising homophone and near homophone spellings. Children have looked at the different ways to spell words such as see/sea, sun/son, quite/quiet and shown their understanding through including in sentences.

Maths

We have been continuing our work on time by looking at telling the time to five minute intervals past and to the hour. It was very tricky, but with lots of determination, we had a go at drawing different times on analogue clocks. We have also done lots of recapping of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and had a go at an arithmetic quiz.

Library

We have all enjoyed visiting the Infant library this week after it being closed for several weeks. The library has been reorganised with some wonderful non-fiction categories and has been filled with lots of lovely, new books. We talked about book care, gave recommendations and had lots of fun sharing the new books!

Geography

We have started our new geography topic all about our school. We began by discussing the human and physical features we might find around our school grounds and where they would be. We then had a go at completing an I Spy challenge to find them and used our knowledge of positional and directional language to explain where they were.

Art

We have had lots of fun developing our drawing skills in art this week. We looked at the illustrations in our class text, Bog Baby, and discussed the style of them. We looked at the different ways that the illustrator created the different types of trees in the woods. We were then given a small section of one of the illustrations and had to complete the drawing in a similar style using line, pattern and colour. We were very proud of our end results!

Science

In science this week, we made some guesses about the heights of some different plants to see which would grow to be the tallest. We then found out their heights and compared these to our guesses. Finally we made the height of each plant with string.
