Year 5 blog – The End! Who can believe it!

Good afternoon all,

We can not believe it is the end of Year 5!

We hope your child has enjoyed Sport’s Day and the Science Super Stars’ show last week.

I know Mr Harris has shared some photos of Sport’s Day on his blog last week.

The year 5 children have enjoyed a French cafe and fashion show this week. We were really impressed with their clear and confident French speaking (It’s amazing what the incentive of food can do!). Here is a link to some pictures from the event:

In Maths we have been converting measures. We stretched our brains by converting between imperial and metric measures. The children learnt how to convert inches to centimeters, pints to litres and pounds to kilograms! It was definitely one of our more mind blowing lessons!

In English, 5KH have enjoyed rewriting our own version of the Jabberwock poem. Here is an example from Ayla R:

BANDERSNATCH

`Twas twidninght,  and the sniky saunterers

Did gibble and gobble in the foraves :

All crimsy were the mournerers,

While they groaned in the graves.

“Beware the Bandersnatch, my son!

The feet that trample, the jaws that snatch!

Beware the look of it’s eyes, and shun

It’s claws that horrifyingly catch!”

And so he took his jaggarp axe in hand:

Long time his devilish foe he sought —

And laysted he by the Zinkun tree,

And scratched his head in thought.

And, as in hardling thought he stood,

The Bandersnatch, with eyes of ice,

Came tromping through the ancient wood,

And shrieked like a thousand mice.

One, two! One, two! And as he went through

The jaggarp blade went there and back!

He left it dead, and with its head

He went skipotting back.

“And, has thou defeated the Bandersnatch?

Come to my arms, my invincible boy!

O my days! Hoorah! Hooray!’

He chuckled in his joy.

`Twas dawning, and the sniky saunterers

Did gibble and gobble in the foraves :

All crimsy were the mournerers,

While they groaned in the graves.

We also had a lovely time playing rounders and listening to the Hobbit outside in the sunshine.

Anyway, we have had a lovely year teaching all your amazing children. We hope you all have a fantastic summer and wish them all the best for Year 6!

Thanks

The Year 5 team.
