Year 6 20.9.24
English
We have become characters from the text this week and written in role as Michael from our book, Kensuke’s Kingdom. The children tried hard to sound chatty and engaging as well as magpie lots of language from the author Michael Morpurgo. We will set targets from this piece of writing and work on these in class.
Katherine Rundell
We were so lucky on Wednesday to join in with a zoom session with author Katherine Rundell who wrote The Explorers which the children studied in Year 5. Katherine talked to the children about her new book – Impossible Creatures and went into fascinating detail about how she starts her writing.
She showed pictures from the strange and unusual places she’s sought her inspiration – including trips to the Amazon and eating a tarantula so that she could be accurate when describing the taste in one of her books! She was so very interesting and inspiring and as classes we then started to think about ideas for our own stories which might be able to be entered into the BBC 500 words competition which launches next week. Details below.

Have a look at the website below and try the quiz to see how much you remember about classification!
