Year 6 27.10.23
We have reached the end of the first half term and the children have worked really hard. We have explored lots of learning and the children did well in their end of unit assessments.
English
The children have been working very hard over the last week to edit, re draft and publish their non chronological reports. We have been very pleased with their responses to feedback and the published pieces are fabulous. Please use the links below to access some of the children’s final pieces.
Maths
We have come to the end of our place value and formal operations unit and the children have done well. The four operations form the basis for lots of the mathematics learning in Y6 and are very important. We will be using them to support lots of out reasoning and problem solving work alongside the arithmetic element of the curriculum. It would be really useful if these skills could continue at home with the children looking at addition, subtraction, multiplication and division regularly. Also, times table knowledge is imperative for the upcoming curriculum so continuing to use TTrockstars regularly to improve speed and knowledge.
Science
We have been hard at work this morning setting up a science investigation. The children are investigating growing mould and are hoping that their pieces of bread are pretty mouldy by the time they come back to school!
We will share some pictures when we return to school.
PE
Children in 6D have been working on their samba skills and over the last half term have created dances in their groups. 6J will be doing this next half term. Take a look and see who you can spot shaking their stuff.
Geography
We have come to the end of our work on natural disasters. The children have been really engaged in this topic and produced some lovely work. Here is a link to a folder which displays our circle books and some work on tsunamis we did this week.
Reminder – WW1 Workshop
Please see the letter attached which we sent out a few weeks ago about our ww1 workshop. Can we ask for any contributions to be made on parent pay please as without your support we may not be able to run the workshop at all.
