Year 6 blog 15.9.23

It has been another busy week in Year 6 with children doing a great job – particularly with our special visitor this week. We are so proud of their confidence and ability to talk about their learning and Mr Harris stated, “The children that spent time with the inspector in group sessions around reading, maths, geography and personal development/safeguarding were, the Ofsted inspector reported, confident and eloquent in how they spoke and engaged with the inspection.”

Kensuke’s Kingdom

We have written in role as a character this week with many of our children impressing us with amazing vocabulary and sentence structure. We will be working hard on basics such as capital letters and full stops – though the children in Year 6 should be very secure on these already – and on 5/6 statutory words. We have sent home a sheet with the 100 words children need to be able to spell by the end of the year. It’s a comprehensive list! Please take a look with them and support them as they learn to remember the spellings of these tricky words.

Here is a folder with some of the photos of the front covers we created last week and some of the writing we have completed this week.

Geography

This week in our topic we learned a little more about tectonic plates and plate boundaries. Have a look at this map with your child and ask if they can find the plate that the United Kingdom is located on. Can they find some plate boundaries?

Extreme Reading

Although in Year 6 we are happy for children to record the reading they do we would still like to ask that you sign their planners every day to record that you’ve also seen / heard them read. The school expectation is that children read 5 times a week. Thank you for your support with this.

Homework

  • 10 games on Spelling Shed
  • Reading 5 times per week
  • Complete the screen time spreadsheet posted in Google Classroom

Have a lovely weekend
