Year 6 residential day 2 2023

The children did chat in their tents until very late last night, some after midnight, and one tent was awake again at 4.15am thanks, perhaps, to a local cockerel. After a staff visit, they did go back to sleep, but most tents were well awake by 6.30am. The countryside is noisy, but don’t believe the children’s tall tales of wolves and other screeching creatures.

It has been a glorious sunny day but we have kept cool with lots of activities in the gorge. We have limited the number of photos in this post, but lots more photos and videos are in this drive.  There are some lovely ‘portrait-style’ photos.

Hopefully, you remember your child’s group from yesterday’s post.

Group 1 did gorge scrambling in the morning and caving in the afternoon. Mrs Dobkin was incredibly impressed with both Amrit and Jas for completing the abseil despite being nervous – in fact all children got down to the gorge in record time and had an excellent scramble. Alfie, Mason, Parminder and Sophia displayed great teamwork in supporting each other down the slides and through the pools. Caving was a challenge for the children but Aaryan lead the pack and completed one of the harder caves with aplomb.

Group 2 did Via Ferrata in the morning and gorge scrambling in the morning. All the children did everything and they were supportive of each other. They have been a terrific group. Different children have had different favourite activities: Jude liked caving best. Holly and Joe liked Via Ferrata best and many others enjoyed the gorge scramble.  Joe will go down in residential history as being the boy with the biggest wetsuit struggle and the quote of the week so far as he strained: “Getting a wetsuit on is like giving birth to your feet!” His mum needs a word…

Group 3 did caving this morning and Via Ferrata this afternoon. Apparently, this group were declared ‘Kings of H&S’ for always doing the right thing first time. Eden and Lilith were the ‘masters of caving’ – the pair of them doing caving challenge on their own. Elsie led the group for the Via Ferrata and the group were very encouraging of each other.

There are LOTS of other photos and video of the activities in this shared drive including some beautiful ‘portrait shots’ in great light.

This evening is some free time and some time around a fire with marshmallows. The children are currently whittling some sticks to use as skewers.

I think that they will sleep well tonight.

Lovely to hear about you all supporting one another through the activities which some will have found more challenging than others. Have a wonderful day tomorrow – see you soon!
